Troutdale Soda Bar Cafe fits squarely into the classic neighborhood café vibe, blending old-fashioned soda fountain charm with practical, down-to-earth eats. Nestled along the Historic Columbia River Highway, it draws a mix of locals and visitors who appreciate a laid-back spot to sip a latte, snag a nostalgic soda, or grab a simple meal without fuss.

The atmosphere is relaxed and approachable, with décor that clearly nods to vintage soda shops — think checkerboard floors and counter stools, creating a casual setting that invites lingering. It’s the kind of place where regulars might start their morning with a coffee and a chat, while others drop in post-river swim or on a sunny afternoon stroll through Troutdale’s small-town streets.

Menu highlights lean into classics with a twist, including a variety of sodas like the New York Egg Cream or a refreshing Shirley Temple, alongside a solid lineup of espresso drinks and teas. The homemade popcorn and caramel corn standout as snack options, reflecting the cafe’s focus on simple, comforting bites rather than elaborate meals. For something heartier, there are hot dogs with local flair — from Chicago-style to spicy variations — and a handful of soups, salads, and sandwiches that keep things casual but satisfying.

Visitors report the service feels personal and friendly, with a homey neighborhood energy underscored by a calm, well-behaved dog often greeting patrons. The space also accommodates small gatherings upstairs, lending it versatility beyond just a daytime stop, as locals have utilized the roomy, already styled second floor for events like baby showers complete with in-house catering.

Best times to visit lean toward mornings and afternoons when the soda bar hums with a welcoming, community rhythm — from early coffee seekers to families and friends sharing ice cream or an old-fashioned soda. The environment invites a slower pace, making it an easy choice for anyone wanting to soak up a bit of Troutdale’s history alongside a casual, comforting menu.

Stopped in 815 am solo on 6-1-25 on my last morning staying here in Troutsdale. I was greeted by a beautiful blue eyed dog that was more like a floor mat. So calm, loving, and pretty, loved seeing the local gentlemen visiting having their coffee. Instantly felt the home town feel. Google didn’t bring up that this place had breakfast but noticed this place last night while walking. Decided to check out the inside and atleast get a coffee to go. The sweet young lady took my order. I ordered an iced coffee with almond milk and the Italian prosciutto avocado toast on gluten free bread that came with a small bundle of red grapes. (I hope it’s gluten free- other wise- I’ll feel the pain in about an hour) The egg was cooked correctly. The toast could use a light drizzle of balsamic or honey to compliment. There was sandwiches, wraps, salads, sweet treats/drinks on the menu. This place brought childhood memories with the rustic bar/seats and overall open space. Highly suggest this place

This new place is amazing, the location looks exactly like an old fashioned soda shop, their food is really good, and have insanely good prices. Everything here is so reasonably priced, I legit cannot believe it. The service was very friendly and I will most definitely frequent this place for great snacks, popcorn, old-fashioned sodas, and candy. The bag of candy I posted was only $5; you can pick from a wide variety and cram it all into the bag.

Such a cute little spot for ice cream or soda drinks. Great prices for everything. We spotted here mostly for dirty soda and were not disappointed.

Stopped by after swimming in the river. The ice cream was a little freezer burnt but the Boba lemonade was delicious. The girls in front were all amazing. Great service. I love the look of the shop. Its super cute. I didn't taste anything but the stuff I mentioned, so not sure how that is.

We hosted a baby shower in the upstairs area. It was wonderful. The space had plenty of room for everyone. They offer in house catering as well which is super convenient. The space hardly needed any decoration as it is beautifully staged already. All the food and drink options for guests are fantastic. Soups, salads, sandwiches, wraps, hot dogs, and more are available. Plus the sodas are so delicious consider them for your next event. You will love it.

Love the old wood bar. This is a great place for coffee, ice cream or a quick meal. The service was very friendly. The space is very open and bright. They even have a few outside seats, including rocking chairs. A recommended stop before you hit the Sandy River or Columbus River Gorge.
